WHEN…

When beauty is pulled off from it root
It leaves a hole that could never be filled with any other thing
When sickness creeps in unwelcome
It leaves traces of unnoticed favours
When you revisit the past
You learn how to catch up with your future self
‘WHEN’ defines time, so separation becomes inevitable partly because soul and body met
But before their parting you have to teach that person in the mirror how to behave

THE BEST WAY TO DU’A IT

A. Wordings

It is important how we Du’a our wants and needs to the Lord of heavens, earth and what’s in between. And what better way to learn how to do it than from the person Allah loves the most; the person who knew Allah more than any creation on earth: The Prophet s.a.w.

Aishah said:
“The Messenger of Allah s.a.w loved comprehensive supplication and abandoned other kinds.”
[Ibn Hibban 867; rated as Sahih by him]

And is there a more comprehensive du’a other than the one taught by the prophet s.a.w himself!?

Keyword: Comprehensive

Read the following hadith to understand comprehensively:

Narrated Saad ibn Abu Waqqas: Ibn Saad said:
My father (Saad ibn Abu Waqqas) heard me say:
`O Allah, I ask you for Paradise, its blessings, its pleasure and such-and-such, and such-and-such; I seek refuge in you from Hell, from its chains, from its collars, and from such-and-such, and from such-and-such.
So when Sa’ad heard that he told me this:
‘You have asked for plenty good and sought refuge from plenty evil. (but that’s not the best way. That’s not COMPREHENSIVE because) I heard the Messenger of Allah s.a.w say:
“There will be people who will exaggerate in supplication. You should not be one of them. If you are granted Paradise, you will be granted all what is good therein; if you are protected from Hell, you will be protected from what is evil therein.

In another narration, he said: it will suffice you to say i.e the comprehensive manner would be:
‘Oh Allah grant me ALL of goodness; that which I know and the one I don’t know. Oh Allah I seek refuge from ALL of evil, the one I know and the one I know not.’

اللهم إني أسألك من الخير كله ما علمت منه وما لم أعلم، وأعوذ بك من الشر كله ما علمت منه وما لم أعلم”
[Abu Dawud 1480]

In the above hadith you’ll notice all of goodness —anything you can think of is inclusive in this du’a.

Using the wordings that the prophet s.a.w used is the the best way of making Du’a. However, there’s no harm in making up yours and in your native language, and Allah knows best. But the best remains the best.

You can check the last chapter of Waabil As-sayyib of Ibnul Qayyim Rahimahullah to see multiple du’as of the prophet. In fact the book is full of du’as. Other acceptable books as well.

B. Focus and Have Firm Believe That Allah Will Accept it

Abu Hurayrah, said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said:
“Call upon Allah, being certain of a response, and know that Allah will not answer a supplication from a negligent and heedless heart.”
[Tirmidhi; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani]

C. Making Du’a With The Du’as That The Prophet s.a.w Gave Credit/ Making Du’a by Calling Allah’s Greatest Names

It was narrated from Anas that he was sitting with the Messenger of Allah s.a.w and a man was praying then he said in supplication:
‘O Allah, I ask You by virtue of the fact that all praise is due to You; there is no god but You alone, and You have no partner or associate, the Bestower, the Originator of the heavens and the earth, the Possessor of majesty and honour, O Ever-Living, O Sustainer.
The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said:
“He has asked Allah by His greatest name which, if He is called upon thereby He answers and if He is asked thereby He gives.”

[Abu Dawood (1495),  Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood]

D. Glorifying Allah and Sending Blessings and Salutations to the Prophet s.a.w.

The Messenger of Allaah s.a.w heard a man making du’aa’ in his prayer without glorifying Allaah or sending blessings upon the Prophet s.a.w. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said,
‘This man is in a hurry.’ He called him and said to him or to someone else,
‘When anyone of you makes du’aa’, let him start by glorifying his Lord and praising Him, then let him send blessings upon the Prophet s.a.w then let him pray for whatever he wants.’”
[Abu Dawood,  Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood 1314]

In another HADITH: The prophet s.a.w said “Every du’aa’ is not responded to until one sends blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).”
[Sahih Al-Jaami’ 4523; rated Sahih]

E. Raising one’s hands while making Du’a as we learnt from a long hadith narrated by Anas as collected in Bukhari: that a man asked the prophet s.a.w to pray for rain and the prophet s.a.w raised his hands.

F. There’s no harm in asking for someone you think as righteous to make du’a for you as the companions did with Al-Abbas; asking him to pray for rain. The incident was reported by Anas as collected in Bukhari.

G. Selected time or places or situation: Such as during rain, whilst traveling,  whilst in sujood, when you’ve been oppressed, after the call to prayer (adhan), when breaking the fast, laylatul qadr etc.

H. Special Time Like The Last Ten Nights Of Ramadan Upon Seeking For Laylatul Qadr, when making du’a you’re expected to use the kind of du’a the prophet recommended for such time. Aishah r.a said: “I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, if I know which night is Laylat al-Qadr, what should I say on that night?’ He said, ‘Say: Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibb al-‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni (O Allah, You are forgiving and You love forgiveness, so forgive me).”

Death Liberate Us

The way I see it, Death doesn’t kill us. It liberates us for the second time after a life well lived. Oh Allah grant us both liberation.

Chapter 69: The Most Beloved of Words to Allah

“In an authentic narration, Samura bn Jundub reported:
The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said, “The dearest of words to Allah are four: Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah), Al-Hamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), La ilaha illa-Allah (There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah), Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest). And there is no harm in beginning with any of the words (you don’t have to say them in that order).”
[Sahih Muslim 2137]

“In another narration, it mentions: the best of words after Quran are four, and these four words are from the Quran:
“Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah), Al-Hamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), La ilaha illa-Allah (There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah), Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest).”
[Ibn Majah 3811, Ibn Hibban said its authentic, 5837]

“In yet another narration this was reported:
“the best of words that Allah has chosen for the Angels are: Subhanallah wa bihamdihi”
[Sahih Muslim 2731]

“Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (s.a.w) as saying:
“Two are the expressions which are light on the tongue, but heavy in scale, and dear to the Compassionate One (Allah) : ‘ Subhanallah wa bihamdihi, SubhanAllahil Azeem’ (Glory be to Allah and praise is due to Him; Glory be Allah, the Great).”

“Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (s.a.w) as saying:
The uttering of (these words): ‘Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah), Al-Hamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), La ilaha illa-Allah (There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah), Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest),’ is dearer to me than anything over which the sun rises.”
[Sahih Muslim 2695]

– Ibnul Qayyim (author, Waabilus Sayyib; Chapter 69)

Poem – The Queen She is

This is her first time outside the
paradise she’s brought up in.
It’s no wonder that her royal emblem is this glistening.

But she’s a queen, everywhere she
goes the wind props, sea parts, and all salute with eyes lowered.
Cause she’s sheathed by an impenetrable armor
-the tradition of our Honoured
Mothers.

Like Sumayya who was killed cause
she stood for the truth just
moments after knowing it.
Khadija, giving out her wealth
Asma’, her two belts
A’isha, her self at the expense of
narrating it.

Now these fools are trying to brain wash this queen with lies and deceit treating her
like an object,
It’s sad she doesn’t object,
And reject anything lower than her worth.
I swear, she’s unique I really hope
she knows that.
A rare gem, a true art; that’s just a known fact!

They were like glass on the most
expensive camel seen atop mountains.
Now, for some reason, we are looking for the restart button.
Until it’s sawn and shown with a golden cotton or a heavenly accent.
For all to know that this is a new dawn of her ascent
But only if she agrees, because this is the true path to be unforgotten.

What Do We Do When A Great Man Stumble

أقيل ذوو الهيأت عثراتهم إلا الحدود — حديث
Imam ash-Shafi’i said,
“The people of nobility that is recommended you overlook their faults, are those that are famous in terms of righteousness but then he errs or slips”
[Bayhaqi’s Sunan Al Kubra 8/334]

Keyword: slips —something minor.

He’s not talking about when this man breaks the law in which a hadd punishment is required.

Why this topic is crucial is because:
One, we are all human and we make mistakes even great people
A poet said, كل جواد له كبوة —Every great man has a flaw

Two, the man in question is famous in terms of righteousness. Which puts him on a global lime light already. So nitpicking he’s faults becomes easy and natural to people so they are warned not to do as that will always make them see his minute faults more than his enormous goodness.

Three, we are in dire need of this reminder now considering how easy it is people tarnish good people be them business men, good leaders and especially scholars.

The below question directed to Sh. Salih Munajjid brings it out more:

“Question
” How sound is the following hadeeth, which was narrated by Abu Dawood and others: “Forgive the people of good character for their mistakes. [except in cases of hadd punishments.] ”? I have read that some people are not sure about it because it contradicts the Qur’aan and its verses which call for equality and justice

“Answer
Praise be to Allah.

” This hadeeth was narrated by Imam Ahmad, Abu Dawood, al-Nasaa’i, al-Bayhaqi and others from ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her), who said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Forgive the people of good character for their mistakes, except in cases of hadd punishments.”

“It has other isnaads which are not free of faults, but when taken together render the hadeeth hasan.

” What is meant by the hadeeth is that it is recommended not to take people of good character to task if they slip up or make mistakes which are out of character, except in cases where a hadd punishment is required and news of the sin reaches the ruler, in which case the hadd punishment must be carried out.
[Bada’i’ul Fawa’id 3/139]

“What is meant by “people of good character” is ordinary people who possess an honourable attitude and other praiseworthy characteristics, those who are always obedient and are known for their good character, but who may slip sometimes and commit sins. This meaning was narrated by Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not call the pious who worship a great deal “people of good character” and this phrase is not used in the words of Allaah or His Messenger to describe the obedient and pious. It seems that it refers to those who are respected among the people for their status and high position. Allaah has singled them out for a kind of honour above others of their kind, meaning that if a person is modest and of good character, but then he slips up and the Shaytaan overpowers him briefly (and makes him do something out of character), we should not hasten to rebuke him and punish him, rather his mistake should be forgiven, provided that it does not involve transgressing one of the sacred limits of Allaah (for which a hadd punishment is required), because the hadd punishment must be carried out regardless of whether the one who deserves it is regarded as honourable or ignoble. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Those who came before you were destroyed because if a nobleman among them stole they would let him off, but if a weak and insignificant person stole they would carry out the punishment on him. By Allaah, if Faatimah the daughter of Muhammad were to steal, I would cut off her hand.” Saheeh – agreed upon. This highlights one of the wonderful aspects of this perfect sharee’ah.

 “End quote.

” From the above it may be understood that the meaning of this hadeeth does not contradict the principle of equality and justice in Islam, rather it encourages overlooking sins and mistakes that are not subject to hadd punishments if they are committed by people who do not ordinarily do such things, and if not imposing a ta’zeer punishment will not lead to further trouble.
